I corresponded with you in June concerning my son’s chances of being admitted to Stanford or to another elite school. Your firm’s estimate for a positive decision from Stanford was 70%, while I thought it must be much less (in the 20%) range. Well, my son was admitted through Stanford’s early action program. Naturally, he is excited about the decision! So, it certainly looks like your estimate was spot on. By the way, he did use your estimates to decide where to apply early. Among the most elite schools, your estimate was highest for Stanford. So, to maximize his chance of being accepted by at least one of these schools, he used his early action choice on Stanford. Thank you for your assistance.”
About Wesleyan University
Wesleyan University was founded in 1831 by Methodist leaders and Middletown citizens. Named for John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, Wesleyan is among the oldest of the numerous originally Methodist institutions of higher education in the United States.
Today, Wesleyan is a non-denominational liberal arts university that places a high priority on diversity in terms of faculty and administrative staff, the student body, and the curriculum. Wesleyan offers 44 majors in 38 different departments and programs including interdisciplinary programs. In addition, the University offers certificate programs in environmental studies, international relations, and Jewish and Israeli studies. Wesleyan students can design their own major, called a "university major," if a committee of three faculty members agree to supervise the program.
The social scene at Wesleyan is very diverse. There are numerous musical performances and plays put on at any one of Wesleyan's stages and music halls. These events range from student performances and faculty presentations to performances by renowned groups such as the Afro-Cuban All Stars. There is also a Wesleyan Film Series that shows movies every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in the science center and at Wesleyan's own cinema. One of the greatest aspects of the arts at Wesleyan is the students' ability to help create the music, theatre, and film which is shared and celebrated throughout the community.
Wesleyan has more than 27 varsity sports teams. The Freeman Athletic Center opened in 2005, with a 1,200-seat gymnasium for basketball and volleyball, the 7,500-square-foot Andersen Fitness Center, and the Rosenbaum Squash Center with eight courts. In addition, Wesleyan's athletic department offers classes in ice skating, squash, strength training, rock climbing, and more in a state-of-the-art facility featuring the Bacon Fieldhouse (for pick-up hoops, indoor track, and general recreation), the Wesleyan Arena (the skating facility) and the Wesleyan Natatorium (a fifty-meter pool with three springboards), as well as a fitness center, multi-purpose room, and athletic training facilities.
